What You Need To Know

Here are some common questions about hosting a Practical Philosophy Club

We generally host a meet-up one time per week, usually on the same day to maintain consistency. At the very least we’d recommend twice per month. The habit of hosting these meet-ups regularly builds the community, and the skillsets that are being learned work best when practiced consistently. As the Stoic philosopher Seneca once said: “Nothing is so useful that it can be of any service in the mere passing.” What he means by that is that just having a cool experience one time is not going to make any meaningful change in your life. He goes on to say that you should go deeper into the books that you have, as opposed to constantly reading new ones. The same is true for Practical Philosophy. By hosting these regularly, you are diving in deeper and improving your skills of critical thinking and communication each passing week.

Generally speaking, the topic for the week is given to all groups on Sunday. Most people prefer this as it saves time on choosing the topic and jump-off points. If you prefer to choose your own topic, that is no issue and we have Photoshop templates available to help you create the poster for your topic.

Ideally you have somewhere in mind, but if not, we can discuss and figure some places out during our discussion.

It always helps to have a network that you can reach out to, but an organizer will also work with you to get participants through channels such as Meet-up, Eventbrite, Facebook, or paid ads.
